Ange Postecoglou wants Celtic fans to respect the applause for Queen Elizabeth II on Sunday

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has called for respect during a minute's applause for Queen Elizabeth II at St Mirren on Sunday.

There will be a tribute to the late monarch ahead of kick-off in Paisley, live on Sky Sports Football, as the Scottish Premiership returns to action following last weekend's postponements.

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson outlined his hope that both sets of fans would respect the applause, with Ange Postecoglou insisting he is focused on what Celtic do.

"As a football club we'll abide by the obligations in the most respectful way," he told Sky Sports News.

"We wore black armbands on Wednesday night - and that was sort of lost on people.

"If it is a minute's applause, we will abide by that, and we'll do it in the most respectful manner because I think that is the football club we are and want to be.

"What we always try and do is portray ourselves as a football club that is respectful and understands its obligations."

UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against Celtic after fans displayed banners about the Royal Family during Wednesday's Champions League Group F match against Shakhtar Donetsk.

The governing body will "decide on the matter in due course" and Postecoglou said the club would accept any punishment if any wrongdoing was proven.

"With all these things there are regulations and authorities in charge and that's why they're called investigations," he added.

"If it's proven that we did the wrong thing and there are ramifications, we've got to accept those ramifications.

"We represent a large supporter base worldwide and we want to do things in the most respectful way that portrays our football club in the right light.

"Whatever you do you should be allowed to express whatever opinion or feeling you have."

Watch St Mirren vs Celtic on Sunday on Sky Sports Football. Kick-off 12pm.
