Almost 5000 fans turned up at East End Park as Legends of Dunfermline and Celtic played in a tribute match to Jock Stein, and to raise money for worthy causes.

Among those who will benefit from the proceeds are all those affected by the current refugee crisis.

Former Celtic players such as Neil Lennon, Chris Sutton, Stiliyan Petrov, Tom Boyd, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Jackie McNamara and Simon Donnelly lined up for the visitors.

They were joined by several high-profile Hoops fans such as James McAvoy, Martin Compston, Scotty Cardle and Gianni Capaldi, who had all given up their time to contribute to the latest fundraising drive from the club.

Dunfermline won the match 2-0 with goals from former players John Watson and David Bingham on a sunny day in Fife.

The proceeds of the match will go towards the Celtic FC Foundation and the Pars Foundation.

And the Celtic FC Foundation's share from the game and the other Jock Stein 30th anniversary events taking place this weekend will assist the refugee crisis on the continent, through international aid partner the Glasgow branch of the British Red Cross and, in particular their Europe Refugee Crisis Appeal.

Stein, who died 30 years ago on September 10, 1985, at the end of a World Cup qualifier between Scotland and Wales which sealed his country's qualification for Mexico '86,  started his managerial career at Dunfermline, where he won the Scottish Cup in 1961 with a victory over Celtic

He returned to his former club in 1965 after a spell at Hibernian, and led Celtic through the greatest period in the club's glittering history.

Under Stein Celtic became the first non-Latin club to be crowned European Champions, he won the league 10 times, the Scottish Cups eight times and the League Cup on six occasions, and he remains the only manager to lead a club to nine successive Scottish League titles.
