Rangers have signed Scotland international goalkeeper Matt Gilks on a two-year deal.

The 34-year-old was available on a free after leaving Burnley and joins as competition for Ibrox No 1 Wes Foderingham.

Gilks won three Scotland caps between 2012 and 2013 and was a regular for Blackpool during their 2010/11 Premier League season.

His arrival follows Rangers' deals for Joey Barton, Clint Hill, Niko Kranjcar and Jordan Rossiter.

Gilks admits he is already feeling right at home as he meets up with some familiar faces in Glasgow.

He told the club website: "I know quite a few of the players from the Scotland set-up and I played with Danny Wilson and Andy Halliday at Blackpool.

"I'm kind of hitting the ground running in that respect, rather than getting to know everybody, so it will make it slightly easier for me."

One man he is happy to see is Barton and he was quick to underline the all-round qualities of his former Burnley team-mate.

He said: "I know Joey very well. We got on really well at Burnley actually and he probably helped me through the last year.

"He's a great guy and I think he's one of the most misunderstood footballers that has ever played. He's very intelligent, he's a very good footballer and he absolutely loves the game.

"The experience and what he can bring to this team, you can't buy that."
