Rangers defender Rob Kiernan has won an appeal over a two-match ban he was facing for an alleged punch.

Kiernan had been charged with violent conduct over an incident with St Johnstone's Steven Anderson during the first half of their game on December 28.

Rangers rejected the offer of a two-game ban last week to instigate appeal proceedings and the claim against Kiernan has now been dismissed.

After the match, Anderson had said: "Kiernan punching me? It was a corner and he caught me in the ribs. Brian Easton saw it as well. It was a clear punch."

Kiernan was later charged with a breach of the Scottish Football Association's Disciplinary Rule 200.

But that charge was not proven at Thursday's tribunal, leaving Kiernan free to continue in the Rangers side when they return to action in the Scottish Cup against Motherwell on January 21.
