Steven Gerrard is hoping to receive advice from Graeme Souness before taking charge of Rangers next season.
Gerrard, 37, was appointed Rangers manager on a four-year deal on Friday after holding talks in London on Thursday night.
The former Liverpool captain, who has been working as an academy coach at Anfield since his retirement in 2015, is set to take charge at Ibrox on June 1.
Souness holds the distinction of playing for and managing both Rangers and Liverpool during his career and Gerrard admits he will seek counsel from the 65-year-old because of his experience.
"I hope to speak to Graeme Souness," he told the Daily Mail.
"He is certainly someone who I would like to catch up with.
"He is a legend at this football club and someone who I have nothing but admiration for. Not just for what he did with Rangers but at Liverpool as well.
"Every time he is on the TV I watch and listen to him. He is a fascinating man to listen to. If I can use that to my benefit I am never going to turn that down."
Souness had five years as player-manager and then manager at Ibrox between 1986 and 1991, winning three Scottish titles and four League Cups.
Rangers caretaker boss Jimmy Nicholl says he would love to be part of Gerrard's Ibrox restoration project.
The Northern Irishman was put in temporary charge following Graeme Murty's sacking on Tuesday.
He oversaw Saturday's 1-0 win over Kilmarnock but admits he does not know if he will still be on the payroll by the time the former Liverpool skipper officially takes up his new position on June 1.
Asked if he would like to work with the 37-year-old Champions League winner, Nicholl said: "Of course, you expect things are going to be on the up and up.
"They have got to. The team have got to start winning games, they have got to start achieving things.
"We have got to stop Celtic winning the league, we know that. How long it's going to take the new manager to get that turned around we don't know. We'll just wait and see."
