Steven Gerrard says Jake Hastie is a "very exciting prospect" and has a promising future at Rangers

Steven Gerrard says Jake Hastie is a star for the future and can help Rangers for "many, many years".

The Motherwell winger recently signed a pre-contract agreement and will join Gerrard's side on a four-year deal when he leaves Fir Park this summer.

After spending the first part of the season at Championship side Alloa Athletic, Hastie became a key player for Motherwell on his return in January, and Gerrard believes he'll be a vital part of his long-term plans at Rangers.

"Jake is one who will join the first team squad next season. He's a very exciting prospect," he said.

"I'm very aware we want success now and as quick as we can but it's also very important that we keep trying to strengthen this team and he is one who can help us for many, many years.

"He's someone who's got answers in the final third of the pitch, whether that be in a one-on-one situation or to assist or score a goal.

"The Motherwell staff have done a great job with him and we're really excited to work with him. Hopefully we can continue to develop him and he can become a regular starter here at some point."

Rangers duo Steven Gerrard and Scott Arfield have been named the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership Manager and Player of the Month for April

Gerrard was named the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership Manager of the Month for April on Friday after guiding Rangers to four straight wins since their defeat to Celtic at the end of March.

Scott Arfield picked up the Player of the Month award after scoring four goals in four appearances. The attacking midfielder has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, but Gerrard hopes the 30-year-old remains at Ibrox.

"I don't want to lose Scott and it doesn't surprise me that clubs are interested. Every single player has a price but he knows very well I want him to stay here at Rangers," he added.

Rangers midfielder Ryan Kent, on loan from Liverpool, is unsure of his future after being nominated for Scotland's PFA Player of the Year

Ryan Kent is another player whose immediate future at Rangers remains uncertain. The 22-year-old winger is currently on loan from Liverpool and has made 40 appearances this season, scoring six goals.

When asked whether he'll be making a move to sign him permanently, Gerrard said: "Ryan is a possibility but it is probably too early for him to make a decision.

"Ryan knows we want him as do Liverpool, but he will have a big decision to make as teams will be queuing up for his services. My advice to Ryan is to go where he will be happy."
