Ricksen no nearer Dutch recall

RANGERS full back Fernando Ricksen is unlikely to earn a recall to the Holland squad despite protesting his innocence regarding the misdemeanour which has seen him ostracised by coach Dick Advocaat.

Ricksen has not been called up to the national set-up since the June Euro 2004 qualifier against Belarus after the 27-year-old was involved in a drunken incident.

The Gers defender did not feature in the 2-0 win in Minsk but after the game, he went out drinking with several of his team-mates.

Upon his return to the team hotel, Ricksen allegedly kicked down a door and that appears to have prompted Advocaat's decision to overlook the right back for selection.

Advocaat is believed to have had no problems with his players getting drunk as it was after the game but it was Ricksen's yobbish actions which have forced the former AZ Alkmaar man into international exile.

Ricksen was unlikely to have been fit for the final qualifier against Moldova in October after suffering concussion in Rangers' Champions League opener against Stuttgart.

But he may have been hoping to force his way back into Advocaat's plans for the November play-offs and is at a loss to explain why he has been kept out of the squad.

"Nothing much happened at all," Ricksen told Sportweek, regarding the incident. "Six, seven including me, were really drunk and made a lot of noise.

"Furthermore, nothing shocking happened."
