Scottish Championship: Ian Cathro link to Rangers job played down

Rangers have denied making a formal approach to Valencia to speak to their assistant coach Ian Cathro.
Press reports in Scotland on Wednesday morning suggested the Championship side had made an offer to the Spanish side for the 28-year-old former Dundee United coach.
Cathro is rated as one of the hottest prospects in European coaching despite having not even reached 30.
He was spotted by former Scotland manager Craig Levein during his stint as Dundee United boss, running coaching classes for youngsters in Tayside and was invited to revolutionise the Tannadice youth set-up.
Cathro helped unearth Ryan Gauld and played a significant part in the development of a number of other promising players.
He left Scotland in 2012 to become assistant manager at Portuguese side Rio Ave and link up with Nuno Espirito Santo, who had first spotted him at an SFA coaching course.
When Nuno left Rio Ave for Valencia last summer he took Cathro with him, and they have guided the Mestalla side to fourth place in La Liga, only five points off leaders Real Madrid coming up to the halfway point of the season.
Kenny McDowall remains in charge of the Rangers squad after taking over from Ally McCoist when he was placed on gardening leave.
