"I was more than happy to sign again and I have appreciated every minute that I have been here," he said.

"I am still enjoying it as well, working under the manager.

"When I signed the last extension, I always said that as long as Derek McInnes was here I would be happy to stay and I think that is the same with a lot of the boys."

Niall McGinn, Ryan Jack, Ash Taylor, Peter Pawlett and Andy Considine are all out of contract at Pittodrie this summer, while Graeme Shinnie has extended his deal with the club.

Speaking last week, McInnes said: "I think it's vital that we all take a minute to realise that and the importance of keeping our good players; the Shinnies, the Hayes'.

"It is important to us and hopefully supporters show that appreciation, certainly in Jonny's case."

Hayes spent three years with Inverness Caley Thistle before moving to Aberdeen in 2012 and has made more than 150 appearences for the Dons.
