Hearts defender John Souttar has signed a contract extension at Tynecastle until 2022.

Souttar, who has won three Scotland caps since arriving at Tynecastle, returned against St Johnstone on Saturday after three months out with a hip injury.

The 22-year old signed from Dundee Utd on Deadline Day three years ago and his previous deal was due to expire in May 2020, but manager Craig Levein will be pleased Souttar has pledged his future to the Edinburgh club.

He follows club captain Christophe Berra and full-back Michael Smith in signing new contracts with Hearts.
