St Mirren boss Tommy Craig has urged his players to stick together after their shocking start to the season continued with a 2-1 defeat at Kilmarnock.

The Paisley side did claim their first goal of the season when Adam Drury cancelled out Robbie Muirhead's opener but Mark Connolly's late goal consigned them to their fifth straight defeat.

The only consolation for Saints is that Ross County, also pointless, are keeping them off the bottom on goal difference.

Craig said: "In this situation, you can point to a million things. But the biggest concern I have is to make sure they don't start feeling sorry for themselves. The only way out of this is to be a collection of players and a collection of a management team.

"If you start individualising, you'll cave in. That's not going to happen. I've spoken to them and it's 'we' and 'us'. It's not 'me' or 'I'. We will get out of this together. That's the only way.

"My main job just now is to keep this lot up as much as I can. They didn't play badly. I don't think either team played particularly good football but I felt it was probably a 1-1. We've actually scored a goal but it's no consolation."

Kilmarnock manager Allan Johnston said: "Last year, we would have lost a game like that. The boys showed a lot of character, especially when St Mirren got the equaliser.

More from Football

"We didn't panic and we were delighted to get the second goal. Robbie did well at the first goal. He will go on to play for big clubs."
