Hibernian have confirmed Martin Boyle will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a knee injury.

The winger was injured while playing for Australia in their 5-0 win over Oman on December 30.

Hibs said in a tweet: "The knee injury sustained by Martin Boyle on international duty is, unfortunately, likely to keep him out for the rest of the season.

"Martin underwent surgery this morning and we look forward to seeing him back in action for pre-season."

The news is a blow to Neil Lennon, who has made it clear he wants to bolster his forward options this month by bringing in two strikers.

Hibs are close to securing the loan signing of former Dundee United winger Ryan Gauld from Sporting Lisbon, which could help offset the loss of Boyle.
