Dundee United have signed much-travelled Scott McDonald on an initial one-year deal.
The 33-year-old Australian departed Motherwell at the end of last season, with the striker saying he turned down other offers to move to Tannadice.
McDonald made almost 200 appearances in two spells at Fir Park, having also spent two and a half years at Celtic.
He said: "I am delighted to sign for United. I want to help this club secure promotion into the Premiership.
"After I came up and looked around and spoke to the manager, it was an easy decision.
"I had options in the Premiership and down south, but I believe that I can achieve success here."
United manager Ray McKinnon said, "This is a great signing for us. Scott is an experienced player who has played at the top level.
"His ability will enhance the team and his personality will impact in the dressing room also.
"He adds to our attacking options and the desire he showed to come to United ahead of other options tells me everything about his character.
"He is a winner and wants to help us win the title this season". He netted 11 goals for Motherwell last season.
McDonald collected 26 international caps for Australia. The Melbourne-born player joined Southampton as a trainee in August 2001, and also played for Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Wimbledon and Millwall.
His first game for United could be this weekend's derby against Dundee at Dens Park in the Scottish League Cup.
