Jordan Rossiter will miss Rangers' Premiership trip to Inverness on Friday night but Mark Warburton hopes he will be ready to face Celtic next week.

A calf strain has kept the former Liverpool youngster out for the last month but he has now resumed training alongside playmaker Josh Windass, who is fit again after hamstring trouble.

Rangers boss Warburton will hope to have the 19-year-old Rossiter back for the League Cup semi-final showdown with Celtic at Hampden on October 23.

Joey Barton will again be conspicuous by his absence for the trip to the Highlands, though, after the Gers extended his club suspension by a week.

The Ibrox club can go level on points with second-placed Aberdeen if they can win at the Caledonian Stadium but, after a slow start to the campaign, Caley are in fine form and unbeaten in five.

Inverness drew 1-1 at Hamilton before the international break and had taken a point apiece off Celtic and Aberdeen before a home win over Dundee which led to boss Richie Foran being given the manager of the month award for September.
