Monaco missed the chance to return to second place in Ligue 1 after conceding a late goal to draw 1-1 at Rennes.

Helder Costa put the principality club ahead early on and it looked like that would be enough to see them back above Lyon and behind champions Paris Saint-Germain.

But Giovanni Sio equalised with 10 minutes remaining, meaning Monaco only returned home with a point and they fall behind Lyon on goal difference in the race to finish as runners-up.

St Etienne left it late as Nolan Roux's brace helped keep alive Les Verts' hopes of European qualification with a 2-0 win against Lorient.

Roux's first - his fourth goal in five games - was picked out by Romain Hamouma in the 76th minute, before adding a second in added time after Raphael Gueirrero missed his defensive header to let Roux in.

Marseille have now gone 15 home games without a Ligue 1 win after drawing 1-1 with Nantes.

Nantes took the lead in fortunate circumstances after 31 minutes, Nicolas N'Koulou heading the ball into his own net from a Leo Dubois cross.

Ten-man Montpellier all but guaranteed their Ligue 1 status in an entertaining 4-1 win against bottom club Troyes.

Jerome Roussillon got La Pallaide's afternoon off to a perfect start on 14 minutes only for Stephane Darbion to level matters moments later, sliding in at the back post following some good work by Chris Mavinga.

Mathieu Saunier deflected Souleymane Camara's header into his own goal and Jonas Martin's emphatic finish gave the hosts a two-goal lead at the break, but ended the half with 10 men when Vitorino Hilton was shown a straight red card for a nasty challenge on Chaouki Ben Saada.

But it did little to slow Montpellier as Camara added his name to the scoresheet, pouncing after Mathieu Dreyer saved Casimir Ninga's initial shot to round off a successful evening.

Gazelec Ajaccio moved out of the bottom three for the first time since February with a 3-2 win against Bastia in the Corsican derby.

The visitors took an early lead when Axel Ngando converted Floyd Ayite's delivery but Ajaccio offered an immediate response to level things up on 20 minutes when Khalid Boutaib beat Jean-Louis Leca at his near post.

Gregory Pujol volleyed home Mohamed Larbi's pinpoint delivery just before the break with Larbi adding to the tally with a second-half penalty before Yannick Cahuzac netted for Bastia in the 77th minute to make it a nervy finish.

Guingamp also edged closer to safety after coming from behind to draw 1-1 with Caen in a game that saw both sides finish with 10 men.

Ronny Rodelin gave the visitors the lead on the half-hour mark from Julien Feret's pass, with Thibault Giresse dismissed late on for a nasty challenge on Jeff Louis.

However, l'EAG grabbed a fortuitous point when Jeremy Sorbon's back-post header beat Remy Vercoutre with eight minutes to play - before Caen's Nicolas Seube was shown his second yellow in added time.
