Jonathan Bamba fired another double as Lille beat St Etienne 3-1 to narrow the gap on Ligue 1 leaders Paris St Germain to five points.
Forward Bamba, who scored twice in last week's 3-0 win against Marseille, struck either side of half-time to help Lille notch their sixth league win of the season.
Bamba's opener was cancelled out by Remy Cabella's penalty midway through the first half, but he added his seventh of the season early in the second period and Nicolas Pepe sealed victory with a late third.
St Etienne, whose defeat halted a three-game winning run, remain fourth in the table.
Third-placed Montpellier lost ground on the top two after being held 1-1 at bottom club Guingamp, where both sides had a man sent off.
Guingamp forward Marcus Thuram was shown a straight red card in the seventh minute for lashing out at Daniel Congre, after the incident had been referred to the video assistant referee.
Andy Delort then gave Montpellier a 30th-minute lead, but the visitors were reduced to 10 men shortly before half-time when Florent Mollet received his second yellow card.
Guingamp struck a deserved equaliser through Nicolas Benezet, but stay bottom of the table.
Romain Thomas headed a stoppage-time equaliser as Angers hit back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home against Strasbourg.
Lebo Mothiba's first-half double had put Strasbourg in control at the break, but Pierrick Capelle pulled one back 13 minutes into the second period and Thomas struck in the third minute of added time.
Saman Ghoddos scored the only goal to clinch Amiens a 1-0 home win against Dijon.
Ghoddos crashed home from outside the penalty area just before half-time and that was enough to secure Amiens their third league win of the season, whichlifts them above Dijon into 13th place.
Nimes and Reims played out a goalless draw at Stade des Costieres.
