Lille consolidated second spot in Ligue 1 by bouncing back from last weekend's surprise defeat to Toulouse with a 3-1 win at Caen - despite finishing the fixture with 10 men.
Nicolas Pepe moved on to 13 goals for the season, with five of those coming in his last six outings, when he headed home from Thiago Mendes' ball into the area in the ninth minute.
Rafael Leao latched on to a through ball to double the visitors' advantage in the 21st minute and that was the way it remained until the closing stages.
Zeki Celik saw red for a foul on Casimir Ninga six minutes before the end but substitute Luiz Araujo swelled their lead in added time before Ninga grabbed a consolation in the dying seconds.
Lyon slipped four points behind Lille after having to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Reims.
It could have been worse for Bruno Genesio's men after they fell behind to Pablo Chavarria's 35th-minute effort, but Bertrand Traore equalised after 71 minutes to guarantee a share of the spoils.
