PSG sporting director plays down latest round of rumours

Leonardo claims too much is being read into comments made by Paris St Germain officials on the likes of Olivier Giroud and Younes Belhanda. As sporting director at PSG, Leonardo finds himself constantly fending off transfer rumours. It is well known that the club's wealthy Qatari owners are prepared to spend big in the pursuit of success and are planning to pump further funds into the side this summer. With big-money arrivals on the cards, the names of those who could be on their way to Parc des Princes are already being offered up. Montpellier pair Belhanda and Giroud are among those to be linked with a switch to the French capital, with PSG known to be admirers of the duo. Leonardo, though, has been quick to point out that there is a big difference between rating a player highly and planning a swoop for his services. He told L'Equipe: "(Major shareholder) Sheikh Tamim may have said to some of his friends that Younes Belhanda is a good player. So what? That doesn't mean that we want to sign him.

Contact

"Carlo Ancelotti says Olivier Giroud is a good player and immediately people say 'PSG want Giroud'. "We never contact players here or abroad and try to destabilise an opponent. We have never made contact with Giroud, Belhanda, Eden Hazard or Yann M'Vila." Leonardo has also discussed his own future, with the Brazilian admitting that he misses the day-to-day activity of club management. "As sporting director I miss the adrenaline of matchday," he said. "It is okay for now but I am open to anything. "It might be difficult to become a coach in Paris, having been the sporting director. I did it at AC Milan, but that was different."
