St Etienne want Wendel

Brazilian midfielder the subject of swap offer

St Etienne are setting their sights on Bordeaux's Wendel, but have seen one approach knocked back. The Brazilian playmaker is understood to be keen on securing a switch this summer. Having endured a frustrating 2010/11 with Bordeaux, he believes the time has come to move on. He has just a year left to run on his current contract and has so far failed to reach an agreement over an extension. Bordeaux are reluctant to lose him for nothing next summer and are prepared to listen to offers.

Swap deal

St Etienne have made the first move, with a swap deal put to their Ligue 1 rivals. They are keen to find a midfield partner for new arrival Jeremy Clement and believe Wendel could be the ideal candidate. Bordeaux, though, are not happy with the terms currently on the table. Club chairman Jean-Louis Triaud told L'Equipe: "St Etienne proposed a swap deal, but we are not interested."
