Marseille captain Benoit Cheyrou has committed his future to the Ligue 1 champions following a successful campaign under manager Didier Deschamps.

Cheyrou was an influential figure in the club's title-winning campaign. The midfielder played 32 games scoring five goals to help Marseille claim their first title since the 1991-92 season.

The 29-year-old had been linked with a move to the Premier League and La Liga with reported interest from Sunderland and Sevilla in the influential midfielder.

The younger brother of former Liverpool midfielder Bruno told Canal Plus: "Yes, I am staying. We had talked about a move away at the end of the season and the press talked up potential transfer targets," he said.

Cheyrou started his professional career at Lille and also played for Auxerre before joining Marseille in the summer of 2007.
