Ligue 1 champions Lille survived a scare in the defence of their French Cup title before reaching the last 16, while Bordeaux required penalties against lower league opposition. Lille required an extra-time header from substitute Gianni Bruno to overcome fourth-tier side Compiegne 1-0. Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso was the hero after saving two penalties as they beat Creteil 4-3 on in a shoot-out following a 2-2 draw with the third division outfit. The all-Ligue1 tie between Nice and Rennes went to penalties following a 0-0 draw after extra-time, with the latter winning 5-4. Laurent Fournier's Auxerre lost 2-1 at home to Chateauroux of Ligue 2, while Ajaccio fell 3-2 to fourth-tier Bourg-Peronnas after extra-time. Fourth-division Quevilly, who reached the semi-finals in 2010, stayed on course for another fairytale run to the latter stages by beating Ligue 2 Angers 1-0. On-loan Chelsea attacking midfielder Gael Kakuta scored an equaliser as Dijon came from behind to beat Istres 2-1. Ligue 1 side Evian knocked out Valence 2-0, with Yannick Sagbo scoring one of the goals. Meanwhile, Limoges lost 2-0 to Drancy and Orleans were too strong for Niort in a 2-1 victory.
