Winger to see slate wiped clean at St Etienne
St Etienne are prepared to forgive and forget regarding Dimitri Payet's recent push for a transfer.
The France international was believed to be a target for Paris St Germain and Chelsea as the January transfer window wound down.
Having had his head turned by such interest, the 23-year-old opted to skip training in an effort to force through a move.
His efforts proved to be in vain, though, as the deadline came and went with no switch in place.
St Etienne are pleased to have the highly-rated winger still on their books and coach Christophe Galtier is willing to offer Payet a second chance.
Blunder
"I was very upset to see Dimitri missing on Friday and Saturday, so he will be sanctioned," said Galtier.
"He made a blunder but at 23 years of age, who hasn't made a mistake? He is responsible for his actions, but is not entirely guilty.
"I am someone who forgives, so I will ask the club to forgive him.
"Things will return to normal quickly enough. Dmitiri will soon be applauded by the fans again."
