PARIS SAINT GERMAIN midfielder Augustine 'Jay-Jay' Okocha has announced that he is to retire from international football after the 2002 World Cup, saying that he no longer enjoyed playing for Nigeria.
The 27-year-old made his international debut for the "Super Eagles" in 1993, and has gone on to win Olympic Gold in 1996 and represent his country in two World Cups, in 1994 and 1998.
However, the former Fenerbahce star has said that he feels playing for his country has lost its appeal, and that he now struggles to motivate himself for international duty, choosing to make the World Cup in Japan and South Korea next year his farewell tournament.
"If you stay too long at a place, people are bound to get tired of you. You could also get tired of the place. Things are no longer the same with the Super Eagles and I will quit the team after the World Cup in 2002," Okocha told Agence France Presse.
"Lately it has become more and more difficult to motivate myself playing for the national team," he added.
Okocha also confirmed that he was fit and ready to face Zambia in the Nations Cup qualifying game at the weekend, playing down reports that he was struggling with a leg injury.
