Assistant manager Rene Marsiglia to take over first-team affairs

Nice have sacked Eric Roy as their manager after he led them to just one win in their last seven Ligue 1 games. Reports suggest that the 44-year-old will stay on at the club as their general manager. His assistant, Rene Marsiglia, will take control of first-team affairs and will be in charge for Saturday's home clash against St. Etienne. Club president Jean-Pierre Riviere told newspaper Nice Matin: "Eric has not failed. We need a sporting manager, someone who knows the club well. "Rene Marsiglia knows the game and the players. He is up to this challenge."

Rene Marsiglia

Marsiglia made almost 200 appearances for Nice during his playing career, as well as playing for Lille, Lens, Sporting Toulon, Amiens and Boulogne. Nice are just above the drop zone in France's top division, although they are only four points off bottom-of-the-table Ajaccio. They have won just twice this season, with 3-0 wins against Ajaccio and Bordeaux.
