Espanyol forward Wu Lei became the first Chinese footballer to score in La Liga, scoring his side's third in a 3-1 win at home to Real Valladolid on Saturday.
Wu, 27, sealed victory with a cool finish from inside the area in the 65th minute, giving the Barcelona club a second win in eight league games.
The victory took Espanyol, who are by owned by Chinese company Rastar Group, up to 11th in the La Liga standings.
China international Wu was the top scorer in the Chinese Super League with Shanghai SIPG FC until Espanyol signed him in January. His goal came in his fifth appearance for the La Liga side.
Elsewhere, Takashi Inui scored the winning goal as high-flying Alaves climbed into the top four with a 2-1 victory over relegation-threatened Villarreal.
After a goalless first half, Alaves broke the deadlock in the 54th minute when Guillermo Maripan headed in.
Santi Cazorla levelled things up from the penalty spot seven minutes later after Manu Garcia handled the ball in the box, but the visitors won it in the 77th minute when Inui turned in Jony's cross.
Sevilla slipped down to sixth after their winless league run was extended to five matches by basement club Huesca, who secured a 2-1 victory deep into added time to give their survival chances a huge boost.
Juanpi put Huesca in front in the seventh minute before Wissam Ben Yedder equalised from the spot in the 84th minute.
But Huesca had the final say in the eighth minute of stoppage time when Ezequiel Avila's goal earned them all three points.
