Former Gunners stays in Spain

Pascal Cygan has signed a new deal to extend his stay at Villarreal. The Frenchman has inked a one-year extension to keep him at the Primera Liga runners-up, with his existing deal due to expire at the end of the month. The former Arsenal man admitted he was surprised to win the new contract.

Priority

"Villarreal have always been my priority and even though it's true I didn't think I would continue, I have got to grab this great opportunity," he told the club's official website. "My family and I are very happy to be able to continue to live here and I'm sure that I'll continue to show what I'm worth." According to Spanish press reports, Villarreal decided to offer Cygan a new deal as they fear losing Uruguayan defender Martin Caceres to Barcelona.
