Genoa full-back set to replace Alves

Sevilla have moved quickly to sign a replacement for Daniel Alves by lining up Abdoulay Konko from Genoa. The French defender was being courted by several major clubs, with Italian champions Internazionale having been linked with a swoop. However, Sevilla have agreed an 8million euros (£6.3million) deal for Konko after the Andalucian club sold Brazilian right-back Alves to Barcelona. Enzo Maresca was originally tipped to be included in the Konko transfer, but the Italian has stayed in Spain after Genoa accepted a cash only deal for their player. Konko, 24, played for Juventus' youth team after leaving his Marseille home, and joined Genoa after spells with Crotone and Siena. His rise to prominence last season saw interest grow in his services, but it is believed that Sevilla's assurance of first-team football have persuaded him to join.
