Spanish giants keen on Gremio full-back
Gremio's sporting director Paulo Pelaipe claims Real Madrid have contacted the club regarding the possible availability of Mario Fernandes.
The Primera Liga giants are not the only side looking to land the 21-year-old full-back, though, with CSKA Moscow also hoping to do a deal in the January transfer window.
Pelaipe says Gremio will wait and see what Real are prepared to offer before making a decision on which course of action to take, with one bid from CSKA having already been knocked back.
"We have an official offer from CSKA, some interest from certain Italian teams and a proposal from Real Madrid," he told
Cadena COPE radio station.
"In November there was a representative from Real Madrid watching the game against Fluminese.
"In January, we will listen to what Madrid have to say again."
Real will have to dig deep in order to land Fernandes, with one sizeable approach having already been snubbed.
Pelaipe added: "CSKA have offered €12 million (£10m) and we have rejected it. The price is something that we will have to talk about."
Numerous other leading clubs in Europe are reported to be keen on Fernandes, who burst onto the scene in 2009, but Real are understood to have the edge when it comes to convincing the promising defender to take on a new challenge.
"I think that any player would want to play for Real Madrid," added Pelaipe.
