Jamie Carragher has backed Luis Suarez to score an astonishing 50 goals for Barcelona this season.

The Sky Sports pundit played alongside the Uruguay striker at Liverpool before his move to La Liga in 2014 and has seen him score 35 goals in 33 games so far in his second season in Spain.

And Carragher reckons he has emerged as one of the best players in the world, playing alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar, at the Nou Camp.

"Suarez was always a fantastic player but with Barcelona he's moved up another level" he told Barcelona's official website.

"We always knew how good he was at Liverpool, but had to do that in the Champions League. Now he's one of the greatest players in world football.

"You wonder how many goals he'll get by the end of the season. He should be looking at maybe 50 goals."

Luis Suarez put the finishing touch to a brilliant piece of play with Lionel Messi against Valencia in December

Carragher was at the Nou Camp to watch Suarez score four goals in Wednesday's 7-0 victory over Valencia in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final.

And he felt he might have scored even more if he hadn't been so keen to assist fellow forwards Messi and Neymar.

"Barca have three star players at the front and they're very unselfish," he added.

"They always try to assist each other. They scored seven against Valencia, but it could have been 10 or 12 if they had been more selfish or ruthless.

"But they all want to see each other do well - and I think that's a great trait of Barcelona."
