Barcelona announce record revenue of €679m (£571m)

Barcelona announced record revenues of €679m (£571m) for the 2015/16 season, according to the club's financial results for the season.

The reigning La Liga champions released the figures on Monday, with the overall revenue mark "representing a substantial increase of the figure originally budgeted for this area".

Barca recorded a net profit of €29m (£24m) after tax and the club's board believe they are on course to hit the marks of a strategic plan that targets revenue of €1billion in 2021.

The strategic plan includes the ambitious "Espai Barca" project which will see the Camp Nou completely renovated and increase its capacity to 105,000 as well as redeveloping the surrounding area.

The club also announced a one-year extension to its agreement with Qatar Airways, who are Barcelona's main shirt sponsor.
