HISTORIC ASTURIAS RETURN MARKED BY WIN

THE Asturias national football team played its first match for the first time since 1936, and the Spanish principality went on to beat Macedonia 1-0.

The match was played at Oviedo's Carlos Tartiere ground and the rivalry between Oviedo and Sporting Gijon was forgotten as the fans cheered on their team. Antón and Tinín, who both actually played in the last Asturias game back in 1936, started the game.

The Asturias team was made up of the best players who come from the principality, and featured the likes of Barca's Luis Enrique and Valencia's Angulo.

Macedonia were the better team during the first half, but were unable to break the deadlock. In the second half, Asturias came out fighting and eventually took the lead thanks to an audacious strike by Zaragoza striker Juanele.
