Barca seal Quaresma swoop

BARCELONA have finalised their move for Portuguese youngster Ricardo Quaresma after Fabio Rochemback agreed to move in the opposite direction and join Sporting Lisbon.

Barca had agreed personal terms with Quaresma last week after Sporting accepted the deal, but the transfer had to wait until Rochemback moved to Portugal.

The Brazilian midfielder has now settled on a three-year loan deal that will see the Catalan side continue to pay some of his wages in order to be able to sell him before his contract expires in 2006.

Quaresma is one of the most exciting youngsters around and the 19-year-old has now signed a four-year deal with Frank Rijkaard's side.

Barca are believed to have paid around ‚é¼6 million to Sporting for the starlet, who will have the option of a fifth year at Camp Nou at the end of his current contract.

Club president Joan Laporta is busily trying to rebuild the fallen giants, and Quaresma joins Turkish goalkeeper Rustu Recber, Mexican defender Rafael Marquez and Atletico Madrid man Luis Garcia as summer signings.

Laporta is also still trying to lure Ronaldinho from PSG although there is still a mighty battle going on between them and Manchester United for the Samba sensation.

Rochemback's arrival in Lisbon was the conclusion of the deal, and after deciding to make the move to Portugal was ready to give his all for the club.

"I hope to show my quality and help Sporting achieve better things," said Rochemback.

"I am going to give my all to Sporting. I am a fighter and can help the team."
