Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale has suffered another calf injury with Spanish media reporting he could be out for three weeks.

The 26-year-old damaged a calf muscle in Sunday's La Liga game at home to Sporting Gijon and tests on Tuesday confirmed his latest medical status.

Bale, who scored with a seventh-minute header to put Real 1-0 up at the Bernabeu, limped off shortly before half-time with his side leading 5-0.

The club, third in La Liga, revealed the Wales international had been "diagnosed with a soleus muscle injury in his right leg" after being examined at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital.

They did not say how long Bale would be sidelined, but Spanish media reported on Tuesday he would be out for around three weeks and was targeting a return in the Champions League last 16, first leg at AS Roma on February 17.

Bale has already suffered two calf problems this season, missing about two weeks each time.
