Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 400th goal in all competitions for Real Madrid in Sunday's La Liga match against Sevilla.

The former Manchester United forward may have thought he had already reached the landmark when Real Madrid posted on their official Twitter account that his hat-trick in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid had taken him to 400 goals for the club.

However, official records showed he had scored 399 with the root of the discrepancy stretching back to September 2010 and a 2-1 Real Madrid win over Real Sociedad. In the match, Ronaldo took a 74th-minute free-kick, which deflected in off team-mate Pepe. Officially, the goal was awarded to the defender - but Real Madrid gave it to Ronaldo.

The dispute is now over though after Ronaldo officially reached the 400-goal landmark, turning in the rebound James Rodriguez's shot was saved by Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico.

It didn't take him long to reach goal number 401, thumping home Toni Kroos' cut back as Real sealed a 4-1 victory against Sevilla.

Ronaldo has now scored 282 La Liga goals, with coming in the 88 Champions League strikes, 22 in the Copa del Rey, four in Club World Cup matches, three in Spanish Super Cups and two more in the UEFA Super Cup.
