Marcelo handed Real Madrid an injury scare as they recovered to beat Real Betis 5-3 in La Liga.

Marcelo hobbled off after half an hour of Sunday's eight-goal thriller at the Benito Villamarin with what appeared to be a hamstring problem.

The full-back's fitness will be a source of concern for Real, who are due to defend a 3-1 first-leg Champions League lead away to Paris Saint-Germain in just over two weeks' time.

"Hopefully, it's something small," Real boss Zinedine Zidane said of Marcelo's injury at his post-match press conference.

"Tomorrow [Monday] we'll see. He said that the sensation is that it is small, but we will see in a few days. We must wait for the test results before confirming anything."

Marco Asensio, Sergio Ramos, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema were on target as the Spanish and European champions recovered from a 2-1 interval deficit to avenge Betis' Bernabeu victory in September.

Asensio put Real 3-2 ahead with their 6,000th La Liga goal - Real becoming the first team to reach that landmark - while Ronaldo has now scored 10 goals in his last six games.

"It was a crazy game, back and forth. I like it because it means we played," Zidane said.

"Betis did fantastically and played very well. They controlled the last half an hour of the game. I am happy at the end. I'll keep the fact that we scored five."

The win takes Real to within a point of third-placed Valencia. They also have a game in hand and play that match in Leganes on Wednesday night.

"We started well, but then we backed off. And when we back off, we are not at ease," Zidane said.

Sergio Ramos scored a header from Lucas Vazquez's corner to bring Real Madrid level against Real Betis

"With the quality that we have up front we will cause problems for any opponent. In the opponent's half, we are better. The second half was spectacular and you have to give credit the games played by Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez.

"We came back, which shows that we have character and that we change games. We are together and when we do things together, it shows."
