Manager hopes to lead club to Champions League qualification

Unai Emery has told his players that he will not be staying at Valencia and will leave the club in the summer after four years at the helm. A report in AS claims the beleaguered boss advised his squad of the news after seeing them lose the first leg of the Europa League semi-final against Atletico Madrid on Thursday. Valencia are currently third in the Primera Liga table behind Real Madrid and Barcelona, but the pressure on the coach has grown and is believed to have influenced his decision. "I hope that we can go on and win a trophy and that we will qualify for the Champions League," Emery told the Valencia staff, according to AS. "I will not be here next season, however." Emery took over at Mestalla in 2008 when he left Almeria to replace Ronald Koeman and led the club into the Europa League with a sixth-placed finish. Valencia's demanding supporters have rarely taken to the 40-year-old despite taking them into the Champions League on three occasions. The sales of David Villa and David Silva did not help his cause, but he has been unable to break the Madrid and Barca stranglehold at the top of the league which was wanted by the fans.
