Athletic Bilbao have confirmed the signing of Inigo Martinez to replace Aymeric Laporte after he joined Manchester City.
However, they have moved to secure Laporte's replacement quickly, with Spain defender Martinez set to join from Basque rivals Real Sociedad for a fee of €32m (£28m).
A statement on the Bilbao website said the 26-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with an €80m (£70.5m) release clause.
"The player will sign with Athletic Club a contract valid until June 30, 2023, and with a clause of cancellation of 80 million euros," the statement said.
"The player will be presented on Tuesday, January 30 in the press room Jose Iragorri de San Mames."
The first Basque derby of the season ended in a 0-0 stalemate at the San Mames in December. The sides are due to meet again on April 29.
