Pierpaolo Bisoli has been named Cagliari's new boss as Massimiliano Allegri edges closer to AC Milan.

Former player takes Sardinian job as Allegri looks primed for Milan

Massimiliano Allegri's projected move to AC Milan looks more likely after Cagliari named Pierpaolo Bisoli as their new manager. The former Cagliari midfielder has been placed in charge of the Serie A strugglers following a turbulent few months in Sardinia. Bisoli spent six seasons with the Rossoblu before entering management and has been a hit at Cesena after leading the minnows from the third division to Serie A in two seasons. Serie A coach of the year Allegri was sacked by the Sardinians after a row in April and has since been chosen by Milan to replace Leonardo, who departed after leading the Rossoneri to third in Italy's top flight in his maiden season in charge. Cagliari at first refused to release Allegri from his contract despite his sacking but the appointment of Bisoli means Milan edge closer to naming their man. Cagliari said in a statement that Bisoli would be presented to the media as their coach now he has ended his tenure with Cesena, who have been reported by Italy's soccer finance watchdog for irregularities. Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani has said there is no rush in confirming Allegri and has been busy looking for players with Sevilla's Brazil striker Luis Fabiano again top of his wish list.
