Fiorentina have announced that former Swansea boss Paulo Sousa is to become the club’s new manager.

Sousa terminated his contract by mutual consent with Swiss side FC Basel, and will complete the move to Florence on Monday, where terms of his contract will be finalised.

“ACF Fiorentina is delighted to announce that an agreement has today been reached with Mr Paulo Sousa for him to become the new first-team Coach of the Viola,” a club statement read.

“Mr. Sousa will be in Florence tomorrow to complete the formalities. A news conference will be held at the Stadio Artemio Franchi tomorrow, Monday 22 June.”

The former Juventus and Borussia Dortmund midfielder has previously managed QPR, Swansea and Leicester, enjoying a brief spell with Maccabi Tel Aviv before moving to Switzerland in May 2014.

He replaces Vincenzo Montella, who was sacked at the end of the season with the club citing a lack of respect from the Italian in his public comments.

Montella guided the Serie A club to a fourth-placed finish this season but then criticised the club's supporters and his contract was terminated after subsequent talks.
