Russian outfit snap up Cameroon frontman

Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala have confirmed that they have reached an agreement for Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto'o. The Cameroon forward has been a target for Anzhi for some weeks now, with talks having taken a number of twists and turns. They have, however, been able to get their man, further highlighting their increasing power in European football. Anzhi already have Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos on their books and recently snapped up Yuri Zhirkov from Chelsea. They will now add Eto'o to their ranks, a prolific forward who has scored goals wherever he has been.

The fee and salary are undisclosed but it is reported that Anzhi will pay €25million (£21.8m) to Inter, with the 30-year-old set to earn a record-breaking €20.5milllion (£17.9m) after tax. A statement on the Russian club's official website read: "Today an agreement was reached between the football clubs, Anzhi and Inter, for the transfer of Samuel Eto'o. "The terms of the transfer are completely agreed on both sides." Communications director Alexander Udaltsov said Eto'o has signed a three year contract with the club after a medical in Rome and the signing is part of a long term project at the club with ambitions of playing in the UEFA Champions League. He told Sky Sports News that Eto'o was not at first keen to join the club but when they explained their ambitions he changed his mind. "That is I think the main reason (for Eto'o joining). Of course he is a very good player and he cost good money but he is I think it's worth it because he is one of the best players in the world right now." Eto'o has previously turned out for Real Madrid, Real Mallorca and Barcelona, while he has won over 100 international caps for his country.
