Palermo make managerial change after 7-0 defeat
Palermo have sacked manager Delio Rossi and appointed Serse Cosmi as his replacement on a deal until the end of the season.
The Sicilian side have enjoyed a solid campaign in Serie A but on Sunday they slumped to an astonishing 7-0 defeat at home to Udinese.
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini stated after the match that Rossi had just a 'one per cent chance' of staying in charge, while he also revealed on Monday that Cosmi was in the frame to take the job.
The managerial change has now been confirmed and Cosmi will be at the helm for the first time in Sunday's match at Lazio.
"Palermo announces the appointment of Serse Cosmi as coach of the first team," a club statement said.
"The Perugia-born coach will train the team tomorrow in Rome and will be unveiled later that day."
Sunday's shocking defeat was Palermo's third straight loss and dropped the Rosanero to eighth in the Serie A standings, with 40 points from 27 games.
Palermo have conceded 43 goals in 27 games, 12 of which have come in their last three games.
They have the second worst defence in the league behind Lecce, who have let in 48 goals.
Cosmi will hope to turn around their flagging fortunes and he has plenty of experience having coached Perugia, Genoa, Udinese and Brescia in Serie A.
He was most recently in charge of Livorno from October 2009 until January 2010.
