Bayern Munich warmed up for the biggest game of their season so far - Wednesday's Champions League last-16 second leg against Juventus - with a comfortable 5-0 win over Werder Bremen.
Thomas Muller and Thiago Alcantara were on target twice each, with Robert Lewandowski also finding the back of the net as Pep Guardiola's side cruised to victory to extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to eight points.
Borussia Dortmund can return to within five when they face Mainz on Sunday but there will then be only eight games remaining, with the Bavarians still well on course for a record fourth straight title.
Behind them, Borussia Monchengladbach moved into the fourth qualifying berth for a place in the Champions League next season after they ruined Niko Kovac's debut as Eintracht Frankfurt coach.
Lars Stindl, Raffael and Mahmoud Dahoud scored in a 3-0 win which gives Andre Schubert's men a two-point advantage over Mainz.
Frankfurt head into the final eight games of the season ahead of second-bottom Hoffenheim only on goal difference after Julian Nagelsmann's men upset high-flying Wolfsburg with a 1-0 win in Sinsheim.
Andrej Kramaric scored the only goal of the game, with Hoffenheim also missing a penalty as the Wolves were brought back down to earth days after qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time.
Also at the bottom of the table, Darmstadt and Augsburg took a point each from a 2-2 draw which leaves them both still in relegation danger.
The hosts threw away a two-goal lead, with Markus Feulner and an Alfred Finnbogason penalty earning Augsburg a point after Mario Vrancic and Sandro Wagner had scored for Dirk Schuster's men.
There was an even higher-scoring draw between Ingolstadt and Stuttgart, who shared six goals to remain in mid-table. Moritz Hartmann, Mathew Leckie and Dario Lezcano had Stuttgart 3-1 up, Filip Kostic with Stuttgart's reply, but Lukas Rupp's goal and Daniel Didavi's penalty earned the visitors a point.
Hannover's plight worsened as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Cologne, Leonardo Bittencourt with both goals.
The Lower Saxony club have now lost eight of their nine games under Thomas Schaaf and 11 of their last 12 in total to prop up the league, 10 points adrift of safety.
