Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund's unbeaten start to the season continued as they thrashed Stuttgart 4-0 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
Lucien Favre's men were 3-0 up by half-time thanks to goals from 18-year-old newly-capped England winger Jadon Sancho in the third minute, Marco Reus in the 23rd and Paco Alcacer two minutes later, and substitute Maximilian Philipp added a fourth late on.
It was a chastening first game in charge of Stuttgart for their new boss Markus Weinzierl as Favre celebrated a fifth straight win in all competitions.
Bayern Munich's four-match winless streak came to an end with a 3-1 victory at Wolfsburg that saw Robert Lewandowski score twice and Arjen Robben get sent off.
After opening the scoring with a slotted finish on the half-hour mark, Lewandowski doubled the champions' lead three minutes after the break, taking advantage of a mistake by William.
The visitors were subsequently reduced to 10 men when Robben, having been booked for simulation late in the first half, was shown a second yellow after he caught Elvis Rexhbecaj on the ankle in the 57th minute, and six minutes later Wolfsburg pulled a goal back through Wout Weghorst.
Bayern nerves then eased in the 72nd minute as James Rodriguez, set up by Lewandowski, fired past Koen Casteels.
Niko Kovac's team are currently third in the table, four points behind Dortmund, while lying second, a point better off, are Werder Bremen after they won 2-0 at Schalke, with Maximilian Eggestein producing two excellent strikes.
Schalke, last season's runners-up, are now third from bottom, one place and one point ahead of Stuttgart.
RB Leipzig are fourth following their 0-0 draw at Augsburg. Referee Tobias Welz awarded a penalty to the away side in the first half when Timo Werner went down as he tangled with Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, but the decision was overturned after a lengthy video assistant referee consultation in favour of an offside call in the build-up.
England U21 international Reiss Nelson scored twice as Hoffenheim came from behind to triumph 3-1 at Nuremberg.
Hanno Behrens put the hosts ahead with an early penalty before Nelson, the 18-year-old on loan from Arsenal, hit back with finishes in the 50th and 57th minutes. Adam Szalai then headed in to make it 3-1.
Bayer Leverkusen drew 2-2 at home against 10-man Hannover, securing a point at the death thanks to Karim Bellarabi's stoppage-time goal.
After Florent Muslija's opener for the away side was cancelled out by Lars Bender, Hannover had regained the lead in the 54th minute through Felipe, who was sent off three minutes later.
