Borussia Dortmund remain on the heels of leaders Bayern Munich after a comfortable 4-0 home victory against Freiburg on Sunday.
Jadon Sancho struck to give Dortmund the half-time lead before further goals from Marco Reus, Mario Gotze and Paco Alcacer - from the penalty spot - in the second half.
The result keeps Dortmund within striking distance of Bayern, who are top of the table by just one point following their 1-0 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday with four matches remaining.
Dortmund face local rivals Schalke in the Ruhr derby next Saturday, before Bayern travel to Nuremberg the following day.
Bottom-of-the-table Hannover halted an eight-game losing run with a goalless draw at Hertha Berlin and are now six points adrift of safety.
