Stuttgart have confirmed the appointment of Robin Dutt as their new director of sport following the sacking of Fredi Bobic in September.

Dutt, who was relieved of his duties as coach of Werder Bremen in October, returns to a role he filled for the German Football Association (DFB) prior to returning to coaching with Bremen in 2013, although he has never held such a position at club level.

Nevertheless, he has managed to convince the struggling Swabians that he is the right man for the job.

"The concept Robin Dutt presented to us with a focus on optimising the structures and squad planning has fully convinced the president and the board," said Stuttgart's chairman Joachim Schmidt.

"We're certain that with his competence, experience and his network, as well as his team-orientated management style, he is going to be able to stabilise Stuttgart and develop the club further."

Former Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen coach Dutt joins a club lying 15th in the Bundesliga standings at the midway stage of the season, just two points off the foot of the table.

They get 2015 underway with a home game against Borussia Monchengladbach on January 31.
