Robert Lewandowski has been reported to police for drinking champagne on the pitch while celebrating Poland qualifying for the European Championships.
The Bayern Munich striker was seen drinking from a bottle following his side's crucial 2-1 victory over the Republic of Ireland at Warsaw's National Stadium.
His actions were reported anonymously to police and could breach the country's Act on Safety of Mass Events which states that having alcohol "can only take place in designated areas".
A spokesperson for the Police District Commander said "each notification must be taken seriously, as the police are there to ensure order".
Lewandowski has not commented on the issue but posted a message on social media that said: "Cheers".
His agent Cezary Kucharski said he was not worried about the police probe.
"We don't take this matter seriously," he told website SportoweFakty.
"I hope that the FA will strive to ensure that they can explain the situation. I don't want Robert to have to bother with such trifle."
Several of the forward's international team-mates joked about the issue with Sevilla's Grzegorz Krychowiak taking to Twitter to claim his innocence.
Torino defender Kamil Glik wrote: "I also drank, can I expect a phone call?" while the president of the Polish FA, Zbigniew Boniek, joked to Gilk that the Italian Military Police were "on their way".
