Portuguese midfielder makes move to Bundesliga
Portuguese midfielder Carlitos has joined Hannover on a two-year contract from Swiss champions Basle.
Having only narrowly avoided relegation from the Bundesliga last season, Hannover have been looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
Chairman Martin Kind had promised 'two or three new signings' ahead of Saturday night's 2-1 defeat to Valencia.
Twenty-seven-year-old Carlitos, born Carlos Alberto Alves Garcia, is now the first to arrive after Hannover agreed an undisclosed fee with Basle.
"We have been observing him for a while," explained Hannover's director of sport, Jorg Schmadtke.
Versatile
"He can play with both feet and on either the left or the right wing and he has also already played in the centre of the midfield.
"Carlitos will help us with his eye for goal and his versatility. This transfer fits completely within our financial structure."
The player has scored 11 goals in 76 appearances for Basle over the past three seasons and is now relishing his new challenge in Germany.
"I am looking forward to playing for Hannover in the Bundesliga and I think I can help this team," said Carlitos, who will link up with his new team-mates for pre-season training on Tuesday.
Hannover face Eintracht Frankfurt at home on 21st August in their opening Bundesliga game.
