Former Newcastle striker all set for big-money move to Russia

Striker Obafemi Martins looks set to leave Steve McClaren's Wolfsburg and join Russian champions Rubin Kazan. The former Newcastle forward was unable to establish himself as a first-team regular at Volkswagen Arena, making just 16 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit last term and netting five goals. The 25-year-old had a previous spell with Inter Milan before joining Newcastle in 2006 and he left for Wolfsburg in a big-money deal last year. Rubin Kazan came calling for the striker after Wolfsburg reportedly revealed that he was surplus to requirements with Martins admitting himself that he had failed to settle in Germany. A statement on the club's official website read: "Obafemi Martins will leave Wolfsburg after only one year. "All the formalities have not yet been ironed but, but the Nigerian World Cup participant will move to the Russian Premier Liga." Martins looks set to be offered a three-year contract by Kazan, according to Wolfsburg officials.
