The 28-year-old Colombian has attracted the attention of Dortmund head coach Jurgen Klopp after bagging an impressive 16 goals so far this season.
And, with Lewandowski leaving to join champions Bayern Munich at the end of the season, German media have reported that Ramos will head to the North Rhine outfit in a deal worth £8.2million.
Ramos believes he is now ready to make the step up and is more than capable of filling Lewandowski's boots at Signal Iduna Park.
In an interview with Colombian newspaper El Tiempo, the player said: "I am happy with this great step forward and I hope that things work out.
"There was also interest from other clubs in the Bundesliga, but this was the move I wanted most.
"He (Lewandowski) is a player that has scored many goals, but I will concentrate on doing my job.
"I know that I am going to be compared to him, but the only thing I have to do is to keep my focus and get on with my job."
Meanwhile, the club's sporting director Michael Zorc has told Kicker-Sportmagazin that Dortmund are unsure whether they will offer 31-year-old utility player Oliver Kirch a new deal at the end of the campaign.
"We know Kirch's contract is due to expire at the end of the season, but we have not made our mind up about his future at the club."
