AZ Alkmaar midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson has penned a contract extension to keep him at the Eredivisie leaders until summer 2014. The 21-year-old made his first-team debut for AZ last season and has since notched up 53 appearances for the Dutch side, scoring seven goals. The Iceland international was previously contracted at the AFAS Stadion until 2012 but has extended his deal by two years. Technical director Earnest Stewart is delighted to see Gudmundsson commit to the club. He told AZ's official website: "We are satisfied with Johann's development. "He is very close to becoming a first-team regular. We believe he has plenty of potential and is a great asset to AZ."
